Today Year 6 welcomed a delegation of 40 students and 4 teachers from China to participate in a fun and educational morning with our students. After some information sharing it was down to the Ovals to participate in some fun games. Most of the children could speak very little English so it was up to our students to explain the rules.
The children, ranging from 10 -14 years, are on a cultural exchange where they are visiting Coffs Harbour for two weeks, being billeted out by families in the Coffs Harbour Region.
Students attend a school in Guangzhou (previously Canton) and board at the school from Monday to Friday, returning home on the weekends. The school comprises 30 000 (Yes, really!) students and boarding starts from 4 years of age. Children are housed in dormitories. There are 33 classes in each grade, and 60 children in a class. A very different experience to our students.
They do have some similarities, as all children do, loving to have fun, chasing Pokemon on their devices and taking lots of pictures.
