Jo Ashley graduated from BDC in 2012. He studied Music 1 and majored in performance. A talented guitarist and vocalist, he received a band 6 result for the course and was nominated to perform at Encore which is a showcase of the very best HSC performances from across the state and is held at the Sydney Opera House (top 1% of students studying HSC Music).
Upon leaving BDC, Jo and his partner Shanteya have travelled the world performing, writing music and recording albums. They have performed at many festivals and events in Australia and around the world. They have performed locally at Bellingen and also Coffs Harbour including the Sunday markets at the Jetty Foreshores.
In 2019, they won the Folk Alliance Australia Young Artist of the Year Award 2019 – 2020. This was awarded after some showcases at the National Folk Festival in Canberra. As part of the award, the duo have been invited to play at the 5 major folk festivals in Australia and also get to showcase at the Folk Alliance International Conference in New Orleans in January (the largest folk conference in the world!).
They have recorded 2 albums, Taken and Grace which consist mostly of original songs of traveller’s tales.
