Yr 2 and Yr 4 are making a splash at sport

The students from years 2 & 4 have been enjoying their swimming and water safety sessions for sport this term. Students have been placed in groups with qualified Austswim teachers and have been learning valuable life skills over the past four weeks.

Swimming and water safety are vital skills wherever you live, but especially in an area like Coffs Harbour and surrounds. The lessons that BDC provide are just a stepping stone to having a skill that could one day safe a life. Bishop Druitt College are very fortunate to have Austswim trained staff and also OSSA trained staff that can teach our students water based skills. Our programs start in Year 2 and go right through to Year 10 with students gaining higher levels of training as they proceed through their years at BDC.

In week 7 Primary students will participate in water safety week. Year 6 students will travel to Sawtell Beach and under the supervision and guidance of the Coffs Harbour City Council Lifeguards they will complete their Ocean Safety Surfer Award (OSSA). Years 2 & 4 will have a fun day dressed in long pyjamas or similar and practice a series of rescue techniques in the pool.
